Dr. Mazahir T. Hasan
Neuroscientist & Founder of ‘The Science Bridge’, Germany

Dr. Mazahir T. Hasan is a native of Pakistan, and grew up in China, Singapore, Denmark and the USA.
He obtained his B.A. in Chemistry and Biology at Boston University and his Ph.D. in Biochemistry at Dartmouth College. After postdoctoral research training with Nobel Laureate Susumu Tonegawa at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Dr. Hasan moved to Germany, where he is currently a senior scientist at the Max Planck Institute for Medical Research in Heidelberg.
For the last 15 years, his research efforts have focused on developing novel genetic approaches to elucidate how memories are formed and modified in healthy and diseased brains.
Dr. Hasan believes that scientific collaboration is a powerful vehicle towards global cross-cultural understanding. His goal is to build “bridges” between the West and the Muslim world, both with a history rich in the sciences, by fostering joint projects on the brain.
By spearheading ‘The Science Bridge’ initiative, he offers a unique platform for building trust and better understanding based on mutual respect and common interests. ‘The Science Bridge’ aims to create twin research institutes in collaborating nations, one in a Muslim country and one in a Western country.
