Dr. Jürgen Werner

Dr. Jürgen Werner is the Managing Director of the Institute of Technology at Bahir Dar University, Ethiopia.

Jürgen Werner has studied Semitic Languages and comparative linguistics at Munich University. He has spent almost his whole professional life in the Middle East and Africa. Jordan, Lebanon, Syria and at present Ethiopia have been his major stations, working as Assistant and Associate Professor and finally in University Management.

Jürgen Werner is currently serving the Institute of Technology and the Institute of Technology for Textile, Garment and Fashion Design at Bahir Dar University, Northern Ethiopia, in the position of Managing Director as a part of an Ethiopian nation-wide university reform programme steered by the Ethiopian government to upgrade Higher Engineering Education.

He served the German Academic Exchange Service as a Lecturer for German Language and Literature in Fes and Amman and as Director of the DAAD office in Damascus exploring the Syrian and Lebanese Higher Education Market for Germany. In the DAAD headquarters he was assigned Head of Section, dealing with German Universities’ offshore projects, mainly in the Middle East (German University in Cairo, German Jordanian University, German University for Technology in Oman etc.).

He was consulting European Union research projects on Higher Education and Vocational Education and was performing leadership trainings in the desert of Sinai. Moreover he gave his expertise to the Syrian and Omani Governments upgrading their Higher Education Systems and to various Middle Eastern University on their Internationalisation Strategies.

Jürgen Werner is convinced that Higher Education in International Networks is a pillar of an unwavering and modern civil society and worth all efforts of common intelligence. His main interest is in change management of Higher Education Institutions.
